What is card analysis?
Card analysis evaluates the expected card level of a fixture using the average of the real yellow and red cards both teams received in past matches. Home matches are used for the home side and away matches for the visiting side, each handled separately.
How it works
- 1.The matches of the selected day are listed.
- 2.The real card counts from the home team's recent home matches and the away team's recent away matches are read.
- 3.The cards a team received itself and the cards it drew from its opponents are evaluated together.
- 4.A fixture without enough past matches is marked “insufficient data”.
Data source and coverage
Card data comes from a match statistics provider and is stored in the database. Yellow and red cards are kept in separate fields; “no data received” and “no card shown” are recorded as different things.
What the result means
The expected card figure is a summary of both teams' recent card tendency. It does not say how many cards the match will produce; it shows what level the past data points to.
Limitations
- ·Red-card data is missing for some matches; in that case the value is stored as “unknown” and never counted as zero. If even one value in the sample is unknown, the red-card average is not calculated.
- ·No league or season filter is applied when searching recent matches.
- ·Referee tendency is not taken into account: the provider gives the referee's name but no referee-level card statistics, so no such data is collected or shown.
- ·Past data is not a guarantee of future results; the final judgement is always the reader's.
Frequently asked questions
How is card analysis done?
The yellow and red cards both teams received in past matches are examined. On this page the home team's recent home matches and the away team's recent away matches are handled separately, and the fixture's expected card level is derived from a two-sided average.
Why are red cards sometimes not shown?
Because the provider does not send the red-card field at all for some matches. In that case the value is stored as “unknown” rather than zero; if even one value in the sample is unknown, no average is calculated.
Are referee card averages used?
No. The statistics source provides the referee's name but no referee-level card data. Data we do not have is never collected or displayed.
Is there a first-half card analysis?
The averages on this page are calculated over match totals. Because the statistics endpoint reports team totals, a first-half split is not produced on this screen.
